WELCOME AND THANK YOU
A big WELCOME and THANK YOU to you as an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist. Thank you for all you do and your dedication to helping people in need.
Let me start by saying that I’ve been working with Occupational and Physical Therapists in some capacity for over 20 years and in that time, I’ve met some incredible people who have devoted their careers and lives to selflessly helping others. Their dedication and vast product knowledge were truly inspiring.
Seeing their level of dedication, I decided quite early in my career in medical sales that I wanted to do all I could to support these therapists by promoting the most beneficial and highest quality equipment I could get my employers to buy.
Zoom forward 20 years and now that I have my own agency where I work directly with the equipment manufacturers. I look for unique products that are changing outcomes for the better and still fit the average person’s budget. Why is budget part of my concern? Because I’ve seen a lot of products that effectively address the challenge a client has, but the cost is so prohibitive that only a small portion of the people who need that product can afford it and gain the benefits it provides. Conversely, I’ve also seen expensive products that offer no more benefit than the ones that are half the price or less. In fact, some provide less benefit, from a therapist’s standpoint, for their higher cost.
Don’t get me wrong, higher priced products are fine if they’re made from higher quality materials and are safer and longer lasting. Honestly higher quality products are typically the products I prefer to promote because in the long run they are almost always a better value and safer for the user as well as a more efficient and effective referral for the therapist. Typically, they breakdown less and don’t require as much follow up on the therapist’s part.
Compassion in Action
As an agent I work directly with the manufacturers and that gives me the opportunity to have greater influence on the way products are made and the features they include. It also means that I’m able to take the feedback I get from therapists and present it to the manufacturer in a one-to-one conversation. This greatly increases the possibility that changes will be made to a product or even an entire product line. I encourage every therapist I meet to share their product needs or wants with me so I can pass it along to the people making the product. Constantly improving the benefit to the user is good for us all.
All the manufacturers I work with are looking for ways to make their products more effective for the people who use them, and they understand that many of these products are sold based on recommendations from an OT or PT so they’re attentive to the feedback you and I provide.
And finally, I want to let you know that I’ve realized that over the last 20+ years of working in healthcare I’ve come to think more like a therapist and I’m proud to say that has been a very good thing!
In expressing my gratitude, I want to acknowledge the hard work, patience, and expertise you bring to your profession. Thank you for being a source of inspiration and comfort to those in need.
